These galleries are a chronicle of this time I've
taken, what I've seen on the road and my attempts to capture the beauty
of what I've seen.
| 12. Inley Lake, Myanmar 2004-12-24 |
 |
(45 photos) - Inle lake is listed as one of the main tourist destinations for Myanmar. A lovely lake, unfortunately it was somewhat tainted by the "over touristed" feel of the place where the locals were clearly not that happy to be confronting wave after wave of European tourists and their cameras. To make it worse, there is a well worn tourist path which is followed by everyone going to the same spots, and being taken to the same pseudo-factories, etc. etc. that I wasn't able to break out of. To top it off, the "outrageous beauty" of the lake that Lonely Planet promised clearly pales in comparison to the lakes in Kashmir, India; or Pokhara, Nepal to name a couple so unfortunately I wasn't as impressed as I had expected to be.
However, there were good pictures to be had and for a stop of a couple of days it was ok though when the travel time to get there by land was taken into account, well it was not what I had hoped.

| 11. Myanmar Countryside 2004-12-18 |

(29 photos) - Renting a car and driver I drove over much of Myanmar over the three weeks I was there. These are photos from the Burmese countryside and stops along the way.

| 10. Myanmar-Yangon Photos 2004-12-16 |
 |
(34 photos) - The long winter break between periods 2 and 3 at INSEAD takes me to two of the few Asian countries I haven't visited, Myanmar and Laos. My first stop was the capital city of Yangoon, (formerly named Rangoon) in Myanmar (formerly named Burma), "Land of the Golden Pagoda" a name clearly deserved as there are pagodas with and without gold leaf literally everywhere! These pictures are from street scenes around the capital city and in its best known landmark, the sacred Shwedagon temple.

| 09. INSEAD Segway Trials 2004-11-30 |
 |
(34 photos) - Writing a strategy paper at INSEAD has some benefits. When we called Segway and
told them we were analyzing their market value curves and would like to see if
the machines lived up to their promises, we got an afternoon "gliding" the toy around the INSEAD campus - must say it was cool!....too bad like everything good, Segways are banned in Singapore!

| 08. INSEAD Halloween 2004-11-04 |
 |
(118 photos) - One has to hand it to the INSEAD Social Reps for always putting on a good party!
This Halloween was no exception with the class in their weird and wacky costumes
out for a moonlight boat ride in the ocean around Singapore complete with bubble
pen on the top deck for dancing in the suds above the waves. Nothing more really
needs to be said as the pictures will demonstrate that this was just another
great INSEAD (Singapore!) party!

| 07. Singapore Wakeboarding Championships 2004-10-31 |
 |
(31 photos) - Singapore put on quite a show at the World Championship Wakeboarding competition. I didn't know what to expect, until the guys started doing 360's in the air….wow! Check it out!

Paris for New Years 2004-01-01 |
 |
(22 photos) - It had been quite
some time since I had spent my last New Year's Eve in Paris, and it
was time to see it again. Unlike last time where I had a couple of
wonderful guides, this time it was me and my camera wandering around
for a day's layover between India and Chile. Here are the photos that
I cam across on my cold New Year's in Paris. |

Langkawi Regatta 2003-02-27 |
 |
(22 photos) - The onwalkabout trip
started a little early with an unplanned but wonderful trip to Langkawi
to participate in the the international regatta. While not fast enough
to place in the winner's circle, the trip was a wonderful experience
and I'm thankful to the captain and my other mates. Here are a few
of the pictures. |

New Year's in Phuket, Thailand 2002-01-01 |
 |
(24 photos) - As a
break from what had been a very high pressure fourth quarter of making
the numbers in real life, Michael Hung, Sunil Narayan and I head off
to the beaches of Phuket, Thailand for some rest & relaxation,
some diving, some riding around the mainland on 800cc Yamaha's and
a great New Year's Party in Phuket complete with old foreigners, Lady-boys
and other fun. |

Chamonix, France 2001-01-30 |
 |
(66 photos) - An innocent bet made
with Jim Chu about our futures in 1995 turns into an incredible payout
when he being the perfect gentleman fulfills on losing the bet by
taking me all expenses paid to Chamonix, France for a week of skiing
in the beginning of 2001. Great weather, great skiing and parasailing
in front of Mount Blanc...what more could one ask for...well, perhaps
some more Vin Chaud! |
